Gear Clusters

Depending upon which specific model and what it was expected to be used for, Tiger Cubs were fitted with different gear clusters straight from the factory from wide ratio, standard ratio, close ratio and extra-close ratio. There was even an ultra close ratio set that could be supplied and fitted.

To help you identify the gear-set in your machine should you need to, here are the figures for the number of teeth on the gears of each of the different clusters.

One thing to note is that the teeth on each set of gears irrespective of ratio (1st gear Mainshaft + 1st gear Layshaft, 2nd gear Mainshaft + 2nd gear Layshaft, etc.) add up to 45.

Handy to remember if putting a gear cluster together from separate/spare/replacement parts.

Wide Ratio

Mainshaft (1st to 4th):

16T - 25T - 20T - 29T

Layshaft (1st to 4th):

29T - 20T - 25T - 16T

Standard Ratio

Mainshaft (1st to 4th):

16T - 25T - 20T - 28T

Layshaft (1st to 4th):

29T - 20T - 25T - 17T

Close Ratio

Mainshaft (1st to 4th):

16T - 25T - 20T - 27T

Layshaft (1st to 4th):

29T - 20T - 25T - 18T

Extra-Close Ratio

Mainshaft (1st to 4th):

16T - 23T - 20T - 25T

Layshaft (1st to 4th):

29T - 22T - 25T - 20T

Ultra-Close Ratio

Mainshaft (1st to 4th):

17T - 23T - 20T - 25T

Layshaft (1st to 4th):

28T - 22T - 25T - 20T
